Detailed version; We've been delayed yet again, to put it bluntly, the old Coder was a ****. He claimed he was able to do all the work that Jamie asked for in (and this was an estimate, so we all expected give or take 5 days) 30 days... He had the files for 53 days before deciding he "Didn't have the time to do it all", lol...

I wasn't fond of the fact he was American (or at least living there), as it meant communication with him was painfully difficult and as it was going so slowly, I didn't want to try and pass on many questions/ideas in case he got even slower.

Needless to say, that waste of space is gone, the following day Jamie already had 4 Coders lined up and has picked one of them, who's been working on the files like crazy over the past few days. He's communicating well with Jamie and I believe they're working together on it, if so, it means the potentially long wait we had, is now much shorter.

We've got a more basic version of the files than we'll eventually have and most of the Staff (I'm useless atm, will be able to give you some real feedback sunday when I'm home) are testing them for what's missing/broken etc. Gladly they're good at it, so me not being able to help doesn't slow them down much (if at all), lol.

Short version; Old Coder was a waster, we've got a new Coder that is doing a MUCH better job (Jamie said he's working a LOT of hours per day to get it finished asap) and will hopefully be with us for the long-term, so a minor set back, but the files are in a usable state (and are being tested by Staff as we speak) now and they're being updated by the minute. Soooooo yet another kick in the nuts, but gladly we found out about the old Coder now, rather than later when we really needed him.

Oh a little more good news, Ren said he's managed to scribble down a handful of ideas (how items will work, new caves etc) and has also updated some of the older ones he had, so when his pc is sorted (should be a week or so, so a little after I'm home) he'll post them. In other words, go kill a week and come back to some good news, at last. >_<

All servers will eventually move over to 2.6 Evo will be the test subject though i believe

Basically what Lone said, we'll be the first to have all the changes, HR/LR (and I assume Extreme too?) will end up on 2.6, it'll be; Staff Beta 2.6 files > closed Evo Beta > open Evo Beta > Evo live > 2.6 to other servers (I would assume as closed Beta, as the 2.6 files and the Evo files will be rather different, the same way that MirRevenge and 2.3 files are different).

And no, before someone asks, Evo isn't going to be a Beta server to test 2.6 files that will then die, lol.

Originally Jamie was going to give us the files quite a bit earlier as MediumRate had exploded and it was his way of repaying the players for it, but from what I can tell, HR is becoming very painful without the new files, he's unable to do loads of things he wants (and needs) to do, so needs the files on there asap.

You can see it as a test dummy if you like, either way Evo will be a server just like HR, LR and Extreme are, personally I like the fact that we get things early, we'll be able to test brand new things on a beta server, assuming they work we can put them on Evo days or even weeks before the other servers get them.

Every major advancement needs a testing phase - Evo will be the next big thing but as its the first server of the MR server to get these files it is in essence a trial run for the other servers as well.

the files that are currently being worked on dont have alot of the basics you guys are used to in MR servers so the first job for the staff on the test server is to try and bring as much of the current MR server features into these new files.

Evo will be its own server and it will be a proper server but as its the first in line for the files it will be the first to run into any problems that might occur with them. ( so in theory a tester )

tbh who will play med rate from zero if 2.6 files are going on high rate? for those of us who dedicated 6 months + to med rate it is going to be a waste of effort in its entirety tbh. imo simply use med rate as a bug finder for hr - no point trying to add sexy new things as these will shortly be in hr when files are working.

Who played a HR clone with much fewer things, an unknown and inexperienced solo server runner and less attention/time than it needed? Oh it seems Extreme was up past 80 players at peak times... People will want a new start and this one will be on a much more reliable server that has more time and preparation (as well as more experienced people) making it work, considering how well Extreme has done up until now (and may well do again with a new owner), it's safe to assume that there's plenty of people wanting a change from HR.

And for the last time, it's not Medium Rate, the only thing we have in common with that server is that it's gone, we took it's place, everything will be different about this server compared to Medium Rate and tbh I'm rather sick of hearing people whine about what they lost, as if they're the only ones that played Medium Rate.

Did you, for one single second, think that maybe, possibly _I_ played Medium Rate? Funny how short-sighted some people are, without looking at any facts whatsoever. The riches I've lost across various servers because the owner/s weren't able to keep the server up would boggle your mind, I always have and always will be "One of those rich guys", why? Because I don't spend all my fugging time complaining about what I lost on my last server, lol.

prov it wasn't a whining thread imo, the only thing i dont have ample amounts of is time. so irrespctive of what is planned for med rate/evo it still means my most precious commodity has been wasted. i dont give a **** about being the richest or highest lvl, i just like to enjoy my gameplay and potter around in my own little way. spending countless months starting over is not my idea of fun even if this new server will be shiny and gold with uber new stuff etc etc.

the main reason i joined old med rate was cos pking was getting daft on high rate but i didnt necessarily want to live in a care bear world, just one with somewhat less e ego aggression and more of a community. your plans to make evo a pk friendly server further instill in me the waste of months of my time.

this is a personal statement not reflective of a lot of players so pls respect these comments. being rather comfortable financially means that i could have uber kit by donation instantly if i wanted, but imo i see little sense of achievement that way. donating time is what i have spent and as already said this is my most valuable commodity.

when you reach a certain age/status/security then most ppl do find they are cash rich, time poor - hence my comments. take them as such from an adult who has worked hard for the last 25 years and not perceive them to be from some spotty twat who still lets his mum wipe his arse.
