Server Close/Wipe

After the shout ingame a short while ago is there an answer to what is happening with Extreme?

I can understand Jmaie getting rather pee'd off, as I see it...

From the beginning HW tried to setup his own server and mucked the files around so it's not as easy to fix as it hsould be so bits and bobs all over the place rather than a standard setup and then buggered off screwing everyone.

Server comes back online and a 'trusted' friend is brought in to sort things out and get things back on track, user count goes up and all appears well until again that somebody screws the server (well Jamie) by doing a runner with the money!

In the meantime we have a small minority who moan and whinge about everything and everyone and need someone to change their nappy (users not admin/gm's lol).

We have a temp GM in to keep things going who IMHO ran a few stupid events, dropping GM Orbs willy nilly was fun but in hindsight bloody stupid for the server!

The server itself is bloody excellent, good levelling speeds a balance of PK'ers/non-PK'ers and some good peeps to chat/play with. Every server has it's idiots unfortunately.

Historically it appears to be one step forward, two back through no fault of Jamies, we now have Lone coming onboard who has been a bloody good/fair GM on LR so we should be back on the up...

Wiping the server would upset quite a few people myself included and it would be a shame to see this server go!

Can we have some news on what the thoughts are and what is happening? Last time we didn't know effected the server as people didn't really want to level or do anything as they were unsure of the servers future....

Nah, you did much better than me, every one of your points would be 2-3 times as long, paragraph per point, that's my way of posting.

From posts made I don't think a wipe is the answer, the people who still play seem happy with how it is, just want updates/fixes put in and tbh if Juice can do it (which he did after taking over from HW), Lone can do it blind folded.

a) Who would quit if the server was wiped....
b) OK I'll close it then...

I expect everyone said "I would quit", or the vast majority did. I'm pretty sure when HW buggered off Jamie said he wanted to wipe it and start over, as HW's changes to the DB meant it was very slow and tedious to change things? Whether he will or not is beyond my knowledge I'm afraid. Though I expect Lone has a hefty say in the matter, so you may want to wait for his reply before worrying.

Great that Lones onboard though. Proven good GM etc. Maybe it could end up like LowRate, with no1 ****ing about with the day to day running of the game.

It'd annoy me to lose all my kit and levels, but to be honest.. This server is going nowhere fast.
The hardest boss in-game can be killed solo with no watermelons. This being the only boss to drop the best items you have no choice but to grind it all day to get anything.

The exp limit has already been reached, so trying to add any new caves in would be silly for the same exp gained.

Levelling is far too easy for all classes now. Can do one and a half levels in 30 minutes on a level 110+


If it was up to me, I'd pull the server down for a week and let lapta and lone rewind it and rape it into shape.

What a excellent idea im away for a week would be nice to come back a seen a new server to get on with although extreme is fun i dont think it very fair atall tbh i think id still play just depends who else still plays aswell if that make sense :P

Isn't that due to the insane hp currently on Warriors? Due to a RB 'fix' gone wrong?

Either way, there needs to be harder bosses ingame, EM needs a revamp (DF and stats), as does ExtremeChaos.

Lone (or may of been Penny, one of those smarty pants from LR!) sorted LR's levels out, pretty sure they just took a 0 off of everything, so the exp cap isn't an issue. Just make levels slower after RB around level 100 (my old server was; Start at 38, RB at 70 [took AGES], back to level 45, then two levels of exp to get +1 level, so at 45 you did a kind of phase 1 and phase 2 of levels to get to 46), giving you the option of new caves and better items.

Either way I agree that the best option is taking the server offline for a few days to get it all done, though I doubt now is an ideal time, with Jamie working insanely hard on the 2.6 server files. >_<
