Each orb can be set to have different success rates.
Extreme initially had the settings for Orbs set to:
Unlucky
- 30% chance of working on item with no added/same stat
- 20% chance of working on item with one added/same stat
- 10% chance of working on item with two added/same stat
- 0% chance of working on item with three or more added/same stat
Normal
- 50% chance of working on item with no added/same stat
- 40% chance of working on item with one added/same stat
- 30% chance of working on item with two added/same stat
- 20% chance of working on item with three added/same stat
- 10% chance of working on item with four added/same stat
- 0% chance of working on item with five or more added/same stat
Lucky orb
- 70% chance of working on item with no added/same stat
- 60% chance of working on item with one added/same stat
- 50% chance of working on item with two added/same stat
- 40% chance of working on item with three added/same stat
- 30% chance of working on item with four added/same stat
- 20% chance of working on item with five added/same stat
- 10% chance of working on item with six added/same stat
- 0% chance of working on item with seven or more added/same stat
I know they were fiddled with so damned if I know what they ended up being but as you can see, the more stats an items has of the same type, the less chance you have of any orb working. If you want a high chance of success, use a high quality orb on a low added (same stat) item.
So just to be completely clear (hopefully), if you had a Violet ring with MC 0-5 on it and used a Lucky orb, you would have a 70% chance of it working. If the same Violet ring was MC 0-10 (5 added) no unlucky or normal orb would be any use to you. If you used a Lucky MC orb on the same MC 0-10 ring, you would have a 20% chance of getting it to +11
