Server Problem - Read this

I was using Mira to make some new armour for a forthcoming event. I had entered a new item in the database using the existing WTArmour but using the Evil Lord Image added to it.

Mira made the item and it did not make.

I checked the database and noticed the M2Server report was showing a load of errors.

I removed the item from the database but the damage was done.

Mac msged me to say some of his items had disappeared. i checked all online players and saw that most had one or more items now missing. I wrote down all the online players and the empty slots they had on their characters.

No items are missing from storages as far as i can tell.

I rebooted the server but this only confirmed the above position.

I tested some players who were offline at the time and they seem unaffected.

The options are either
- a 3 day rewind to 7pm on Friday last
- I try my best to replace the missing items and leave the databse as it is

If I go for the first option we get a solid database back but with all the hassle that a 3 day rewind brings with it

If I use the second option there may be problems that I do not yet know about that that my come back and bite me in the butt at a later date. If that happens, the rewind will still be an option but the time elapsed will have increased and so will the damage that the rewind would cause.

I am going with the second option for now and will ask Lone, Jamie and others to advise if there is any other course of action i might usefully consider. If I can replace the missing items without further incident then all is well. Time will tell.

Meanwhile gate is now open and please play as normal until you hear otherwise

My apologies for this but in the absence of having a test server **** happens and I had no idea this new armour could produce such a lousy problem for us

Sorry once again to one and all. I have been on the wrong end of this before so I fully understand what a pain it can be to have a rewind so I will do all i can to avoid it

lol i had summert go wrong last night on my server. reloaded item db after uploadin new items and had like 5 mins of spikes. no errors on M2 tho. but everyones items were ***ed lol.

Maybe have the rewind, and give a 2day event to make up for the loss time =]

Might come to that. Trying the item replace route first. I hate the idea that the database may have written crap that doesnt come to light for a while but want to avoid rewind if I possibly can.

Will reload the old database on Friday for a slightly extended reboot session and check that all the claims made were sound but worth it to make sure no one taking the pi$$.

Is there anyway to do an automated live DB back at regular intervals that doesnt create unplayable lag?

tbh m8 just do a rewind odd player will moan but im sure every1 will understand. will save you a hell of alot of hassle in the long run.

You may well be right but I will put it to the players.

Lone could you make a poll please asking if the players want a rewind with all that entails or go for item replacements together with the risk that the database may be damaged and that a larger rewind may be needed later (with even greater hassle)

Meanwhile I'll try to find if there is any additional problem arising from this not yet known.

we have all leveled, gained stuff etc

tbh you should do a rewind, yeh we all like to moan, but we will moan a lot more in a few weeks when you try and add a new set and the database throws a massive wobbly and destroyes the server lol

you could even go on now, check all charas levls and items and re lvl/kit them after a rewind if u could be bothered lol, a lot of work i know
