sound card help

ok about 3 weeks ago i have to wipe my hard drive due to it hving about 30+ viruses on it and when i got the comp bak up and running i noticed there was no sound..

so went to see what was up and it told me there was no sound card installed

and when i try to reinstall it it asked me for a disc which i dont have and never did have so were can i get one from for FREE

try lookin at your motherboard's cd if u have a built-in soundcard

if your looking for a driver and knows the exact name or code of your card and just search for <cardname> driver on your brwsers search engine
or try driver.com
or try utorrent.com get utorrent(torrent downloader)but your lucky if u dun get a virus or a worm)

if you dont have any idea where to get your soundcards name ..run windows update and pray windows will update your harware software

i dont have any of the cds its a 2nd hand pc

try finding out what your motherboard's name or model is(i do this by opening pc cover and lookin at motherboard)
anyother way im too sleepy to think

how would utorrent help? you dont need torrents to get drivers you get them from websites thers 1000's of them out there

drivers will be ac97. Type ac97 i to google and download the drivers

no it aint illegal i have prober windows lol i activated it about 3 days ago

Type of pc? Go on to the website of it and it may have a list of drivers, if not do as lapta said and download from there.

As Lapta has already said 90% of motherboards use the AC'97 codec for soundcards so a recent version of that should sort out your problem, another type of soundcard, normally the sort builders like HP and Dell etc need the Microsoft UAA driver to work properly, if it is this type of soundcard it would just show up as a high definition audio device.

Your best best to start with is to google realtek AC'97 driver download, if that one doesnt work then google teh microsoft UAA high def driver, either one of these should sort out your computer.

And if all else fails as someone else suggested open the side panel of your computer and find teh make/model of your motherboard ie Asus M2N-SLI and then go to the manufacturers website and get drivers from there, for asus its simply www.asus.com and you should find that most manufacturers are similiar, I think the worst one is ECS which just to annoy people is www.ecs.com.tw
