heres a little reboot 101 for you (its a bit long winded but it might reassure you with future reboots )


when we go server side we have different programs running which together allow the game to run.
SQL/Database Server
Logingate/LoginServer/selgate
GameGate
and the M2server.
with out anyone of these programs the game wont work

the M2 server is the daddy of all the programs as its the one which allows all the others to speak to each other and provides the logs of whats happening on the server as an when it happens.

for example if a gm makes something the line of log reads like this.

[12/2/2008 16:24:34 PM] [Make] Lone MirWheel(XL) (0123456789)
[12/2/2008 16:24:35 PM] [Make] Lone MirWheel(XL) (1234567890)

and so on.

but theres another line that is vital to understand to avoid Rewinds when people are playing and thats the line which tells you how many people are currenly online which looks like this

[12/2/2008 16:24:35 PM] Users: 33

when this message comes up it means not only that there are currently 33 people online but also that the database has successfully saved itself.

this occurs every 10 minutes.

Sooo, if you found an item a hour before the reboot the chances are the database has saved itself at least 5 times since you found the item.


when i took over the Low rate lapta made sure to tell me to wait for everyone to be offline and for the "[12/2/2008 16:24:35 PM] Users: 0" to pop up before shutting the server down all together as it will give the database the chance to save all the information for all the users after they have logged off.

so my theory for the reboot of med rate is that either lapta waited for the DB to save before he closed the server (which might mean you have a few seconds worth or rewind) or he simply kicked you all off and then waited for the database to save itself before actually closing it down fully. (which would mean you would come back to exactly where you were when server went down)

i cant give you a specific awnser as to what he did but hey i think your HellArmour(M) should be safe (which i assume is the bit your interested in rather than my babblings )
