Hard disk help =/

ok got a new 500gig HD its in the slot with the sata cable going from the HD to an avilable slot in the motherboard...

ive pressed F2 and scrolled down to SATA PORT 4 which is where its plugged into. highlighted "enable drive" or what ever it says and clicked "yes"

now pressed esc and save/exit.

boots up and i thought the extra hard drive was seen in My Comp??

but its not there just my 1st hard drive C: and back up D:

now i wonder if i need to disable the D:-Back up some how??? in order to get the new HD to be reconised?

any help would be great

did you format the drive and assign a drive letter to it?

how do i do that? is it easy, sounds a right ball ache??

ok press start and right click my computer, select manage
it should open up a window with loads of options on the left
there should be a tab for storage, extend it and click on disc management
your new drive will be the one with no name, right click it and press format, select the file system as ntfs and pick a drive letter from the drop down fox (try f or g, something that won't be in use)

hmm i got to the comp management screen but it says:

top 2 are blank- free space 32mg and 2nd 1gig...

next is C: with 8 gig free
then D: with 18 gig free.

under all this shows:

disk0 - C- back up ect
disk 1 - unallocated...

if i right click this says new partition (which goes into a setup wizard) - help - properties

any ideas?

glad to hear you got it working, new drives can be a pain in the as some times >.<
