A cold wind blew through the village of Patarchi. The willow trees flexed with each passing gust, creaking as their flimsy trunks bent back on themselves. Keida and Hanoo quickened their step towards the old, dilapidated town hall as a creature let out a blood curdling cry from somewhere close by.
Keida and Hanoo belonged to a society that spread wide across the map, it had no official name but the Elders often referred to it as “Mir” and the lower rankings always followed the Elders words. Recently trouble had been spreading through Xien Castle and its surrounding lands, a force so strong that any peasants that happened to cross it came to a slow but painful death, and now it had reached the lips of the society.
The two soldiers reached the old town hall and looked around to check the surrounding areas were safe. When they were satisfied they sat down on a crumbling, dust bearing, sandstone wall that had once protected the hall but had long since collapsed and waited for the elder to arrive.
There was a shuffling sound from behind the wall and the pair jumped to their feet and moved into their battling stance, standing back to back with their axes lifted to eye level, making it impossible for anything to sneak up and ambush them. Shifting their feet nervously they slowly moved around in a circle keeping together to check the horizon for any force near by ready to attack at any moment.
“Lower your swords soldiers, I mean you no threat” a low husky voice came from the darkness, the two automatically turned to see who or what had spoken. As soon as their eyes met the elders, they fell down to their knees to bow, it was a great honour to see an elder let alone be called to a meeting with one.
“Raise my children, what I have to tell you is of great importance” The elder spoke as he gestured with his hand for the groundlings to rise to their feet.
“The Xien lands are in great peril….”
