Red face cheese balls vs cheese doodles?

Sorry for the title, I just can't think of one. I wrote a post in the 'drop files' thread but I went way off topic so I figured I better put it somewhere else

You guys seem quite happy with your community and I'd love to be a part of it, but that is the only reason I'm still hanging around at all to be honest, and that's a shame because clearly a lot of work and time has gone into this project and I can see this is the ultimate game for players made by players. As a new player (kind of, new to this server and the map changes etc anyway) I can give you an insight as to what playing is like for me. I don't know if this information is going to be useful but I do see that you would like more people to come and play and STAY playing because you are advertising.

Anyway, the download and the patching was all good. The 30 second timeout while making an account or doing anything at all before logging in was confusing, I had to ask what had happened as I thought I had broken files or something. Is there any way to make the time last longer? If not, could a tip about the timeout be written somewhere prominent on the download page?

So, I logged in. Talked to the npc and got a load of gear and my level changed to 49. I figured that was fine, because the mobs and stuff would be adjusted to match, and so would the gear. I got a load of spells right away and they were confusing, even to a seasoned player. Luckily I remembered what most of them were, and I was able to keybind them similarly to how I used to have them, but for a totally new player this would be a nightmare to sort out! Some spells were also missing, presumably because higher level spells were better to use instead such as summon skeleton, thunderstorm, lightning, hellfire, and the one that I can't remember the name of which people use blizzard for instead (was learnt before firewall and was an aoe fire attack).

I found that I had no fear of mobs hurting me. My tao can clear a room in ST maze, ZT maze, PSC with no problems, not bothering to use hide (well mass hide as hiding is missed out too) or mass heal because my pets are more or less indestructible. It's a good thing that you can't get exp just from your pets killing stuff because I could simply leave my character online in a busy room and let my pets kill everything and go watch tv. That's not playing a game :/

I see on the forums that most discussion about drops or maps or mobs or such is aimed at 55+ players, but if you ignore the newbies there will be some that don't bother to get to 55 to check out these things.

New players in any game always want to see upgrades or new skills or new areas from the start, so as I mentioned in another thread, wearing super cool starter gear makes the drops you manage to get for yourself completely useless. It was pointed out that you can get cheap pots from certain npcs but a new player might not consider that another npc might have different things. Also, it's nice to pick up pots when you're hunting to reduce the need to keep going back to town for a refill, although at least it's an awful lot quicker to get there and back now

I see that changes are being made at the moment, so I'll shut up here in case all this is going to happen anyway

Nice to hear good solid opinions from a genuinely new player

First thing I think you should look at and hopefully try out by tonight or tomorrow is the new starting area that Lapta has been working on, you can read about it here. This area should be getting added during the next server reboot

I should also mention that you do get the EXP if your pets kill the mob, though I'm not a taoist and don't honestly know if this is true or not for summoned pets.

More instruction and guidance for players completely new to mir is a good idea and I'm sure can be easily added to NPC scripts in the new starting area.

As for hunting areas I would enjoy feeling too good for the areas while you still can, because it gets much much tougher as you move on through the game. You could level yourself in Insect cave too, it's a bit tougher than the likes of PSC but the exp is much much better. The entrance is in WW (woomyon woods )

Har! Now I've discovered you can get a ton of bundles in Gi Ryoong so if I go there on my tao I can collect bundles for all my chars XD Excellent!
