Close the server? Read fully please.

Well as you may or may not know the new files are a few days way from being finished.
The plan has always been to convert HR to the new files and this will be done.
However as people have pointed out there is not much point in the current server being up without massive changes which will only benifit high level players and pretty much right the server off for noobs, as well as things i can't change such as spells.

The new files will allow me to address all the issues that are currenlty in game.

So here is wat i am proposing...
Close the current server (all the data will be safe) and open the new low rate server in its place. Once everything is 100% working on the new files, then convert the old database to the new files, so therefore having 2 servers, a low rate (much more details about this later) and the current high rate server on the new files (which i would guess would be ready after about a month)

The new server will be open regardless of wat people say, but this way you will all get a chance to play the new server without the risk of missing out on HR. As mir 3 is closing in a few weeks i have in place google ads and fb ads ready to go once the server is ready to go, so hoepfully we will get a lot of new players, and of course like any new server you will get new players coming to check it out.

The new files are like 98% ready, with some very small bugs which need to be addressed and the ninja spells which need to be sorted (which is being done now)

I think you should leave it as 1 server, start completely fresh.. the state MR is, is just unplayable for new players.

thats all well and good but as raptor said, what about the people who have donated alot of money, if starting fresh they would need either reimbursment or some sort of boost. because there is alot of money being donated every day, you dont actually realise how much... tbh imo i think jamie should just close the server for a month and do everything that needs to be done without opening another server. people will moan that they cant play but the wait will want them to play more. and when the game is up again they will be so overjoyed they will jizz in their pants. its like sex. if ya gf/bf makes you wait it feels soooooooo much better when you do get it!

thats my opinion tbh from a Non playing perspective.

People need to learn to let go. I could cry over my 8 rebirths and 200 bill cash stored. So what if the game isnt fun no more, who cares about lvls or items?

Maybe im reading this wrong but as far as i can work out the low rate server would start from afresh so that people who are looking for a server can play it as a noob knowing that all are on roughly the same level as everybody else.

This server to be closed until all new files are converted and then reopened with all chars still in place at the levels they were previous, so all people if they wish can carry on where they left off, and new and old players can then choose which server they would prefer to play or even both.

Rightly said the new server put up would encourage new players.

im not thinking of ingame cash, im talking about irl cash, people who have donated 200-300 sterling for whatever...only the odd few would care about losing ingame cash as easy to make on here but irl cash is a very diff matter.

Tbf the title does say read it fully, and nowhere in the post does it say the server will be permanently closed.

I'm not sure what Lapta means by "...without massive changes which will only benifit high level players and pretty much right the server off for noobs", I think some changes should be made even if it doesn't seem the right thing to do at the time as my view is that people just want something new to see and do, hence why there is apparently a number of loyal MR players trying Atlantis server at the moment.

I've always said that for the changes we want we should wait for the new files to be completed and once they are there is no end to things that can be changed, and I stand by that but there is also some things that could be done to liven up the server before the new files are here. For example cave changes, they don't all need to be made harder or easier or more rewarding (some do) but just lots of small changes that give people something new to do. By small things I mean things as simple as changing mob names, mob attacks, changing the maps of already existing caves etc. I know that is as much effort as adding new caves but as we all know there can't be 10 brand new extra caves added to the server because of mob lag and map limits, the best thing that could happen from here is the new i7 server showing up and allowing there to be a lot more mobs and caves added but that would still leave the current caves unused.

I had a thought last night, and it may have just been a stupid random pointless thought but I for one would like to give ideas and help out in whatever way I can and I'm sure there is other players new and old that would do the same. My thought was a new forum section, something like an "Ideas/Scripting" section where people can give thoughts, ideas and even help to write up new scripts for NPCs, drop files etc. I realise there would be selfish people making NPC scripts that give 100 billion gold to themselves, or drop files that drop Pro rings at a rate of 1/1, but these people could be ignored or even banned for doing so. Another use for this forum section could benefit Lapta, Vicky and Eddy quite a lot, as I know they cannot always have the time to write new NPC scripts or drop files and they could simply post what needs to be done and let the players do the work. This could just be extra work for the admins, and I realise that somebody would have to post a list of script commands for noobs like me that can't remember any of the commands though I'm sure there are still players out there that know some of them, but if it worked well then Lapta could make a post saying "I need an npc that does -this-" or "I need drop files for -these- mobs in -this- cave" and then go off to do whatever else needs to be done server side (or to make the idea more appealing Jamie, play some xbox

) and a few hours later or the next day pop back onto the forums and have a quick proof read of the scripts that have been posted and copy+paste them into in a notepad file ready to be used.

Yeah ok my pointless thoughts do tend to drag on a bit, try listening to me talk in real life and then you'll know how lucky you are that I don't post every thought I have on the forums! (Jamie, Vicky and Eddy will vouch for this

This would be the most sensible and logical action possible to take. I know alot of people have donated alot of money to the server, including myself over the years... but this server has run it's course. There are untold billions of corrupt gold, items and levels still floating around (...ahem..) and NOBODY will ever want to join the server in it's mature state. Even the legit gold, items and levels are rediculess. When the server was at it's peak being level 75+ was an achievable goal, then it moved to 120+ which is a natural progression. Now it would take over 1600+ levels to be top dog and no new players would be willing to do that.
The only people who will be against this are the current highest level players, who have donated alot of money... but it would be stupid to shape the server around the dwindling population. By starting the server again and targeting new markets there may be a return on the investment made on developing the new software. Without a wipe, the entire project will be a failure within 6 months.
Wipe/take down high rate, start again (removing the other random stupid servers which generate little income) and target new markets with advertising.

We'll all feel nostalgia for the time, effort and money invested in our char's but times change and it is long past the point where starting again is required. I just hope that it will not be possible to donate for levels next time around and events/drop files are very carefully monitored.
